There was much sadness last year when Niagara Health Care (NHC) announced they would no longer be importing the popular scooters, but fortunately Drive have stepped in in to bring these popular scooters back to the British market.

The Royale 3 and Royale 4 are among the most technically advanced scooters available. Manufactured by Heartway of Taiwan – who also produce the Vita for TGA – the Royale features full suspension, full LCD display, and automatic speed control during cornering, as well as all the other features you would expect from a luxury eight mile an hour mobility scooter.

Excel Entice 4 Universe

The Excel Entice and Excel Entice Universe make up the Van Os midi Range. The main differences between the two apart from styling are the maximum speed (eight miles per hour for the Entice and six for the Entice Universe), weight capacity (23.6 stone for the Entice;21.5 for the ‘Universe’) and size. The Entice Universe has a three inch longer wheel base although it is only about half an inch longer in total.

Both scooters feature full suspension adjustable at the rear, dual 50 amp hour batteries and an angle adjust steering column and the Entice is  avaliable in three or four wheel versions.

Maxi Scooter

Excel Exite Galaxy 4

The Excel Excite Galaxy is Van Os’s eight mile per hour maxi scooter. The Galaxy is designed to be more heavy duty than the midi scooters and is about nine inches longer, and an inch wider than the Entice. The Galaxy is available with a choice of 50 or 73 amp hour batteries, the 73 amp hour giving a maximum range of 31 miles per charge. The Galaxy is available in three or four wheel versions.

The Galaxy features a heavy duty Rhino 160 controller that can be programmed to adjust drive characteristics; wide adjustable seat captains seat with four height settings; full suspension, adjustable at the rear; and Van Os’s angle adjustable steering column.

Heavy Duty

The Excel Excite is a Van Os’s heavy duty Scooter. Is is supplied with a powerful 650 watt motor, and has a maximum user weight of 34.5 stone (220kg). The Excite comes with independent front and rear suspension which can be adjusted to suit the user the tiller can be easily adjusted to a comfortable. Angle.

Luxury

TGA Vita

The TGA Vita is an obvious successor to the Royale as it manufactured by Heartway, the same company that manufactures the Royale. Like the Royale the Vita has very modern styling based on contemporary motorcycle and moped design.

The Vita is a smaller scooter than the Royale being six inches shorter and a couple of inches narrower as well as being almost a hundred pounds lighter including batteries, this gives the Vita a nimbleness not shared by the larger Royale.

Days Strider ST6

The Days Strider ST6 has all the features you would expect in a luxury mobility scooter. It comes with full suspension (oil damped at the rear and coil sprung at the front). Like the Royale it has extra large wheels with pneumatic tires for excellent road clearance and stability.

The Strider ST6 has a massive stated range of 35 miles per charge for extra long journeys, and is equipped with a plush rotating captains seat and wrap around tiller to ensure that you are comfortable for the whole trip.

Dimensions

The two scooters are similarly sized: the Sport Rider is 65 inches long and 29 inches wide and the Supersport is an inch shorter and the same width. The Sport Rider sits a little higher due to its massive 19.5 inch wheels, although the both offer the same 5 inch ground clearance. Both scooters are a reasonable weight for such high spec scooters with the Sport Rider a touch heftier at 205 pounds without batteries versus the Supersport at 200 pounds.

Performance

The two scooters are provided with very different battery options yet manage to get very similar performance figures. The Sport Rider is available in either a 79 amp hour or a 100 amp hour configuration; the stated range for these is 20 to 25 miles for the former and 25 to 30 miles for the latter. The Supersport is available in either a 40 amp hour or a 75 amp hour set up and delivers 20 and 30 miles per charge respectively. Both of these mobility scooters claim a 31 stone (200 kg) maximum carrying capacity and a 12 degree (21 percent) maximum climbing angle.

Features

Both the Drive Sport Rider and the TGA Supersport are well specced. Both scooters are equipped with plush orthopaedic captain’s seats, powerful lights to the front and rear and indicators. The controls on the Sport Rider are more advanced than the Supersport: dual LCD displays show an odometer, a trip meter, battery charge indicator and a clock.

Summary

Both the TGA Supersport and the Drive Sport Rider offer a comfortable stable ride in a distinctive retro style. The Drive Sport Rider has added some modern touches that on the surface make it more attractive than the older Supersport, but only time will tell if this new mobility scooter has the staying power of the TGA workhourse.

The Eclipse has ground clearance of almost 3 inches (7.5 centimetres) which is very good for a travel scooter in this class, although not as high as the more expensive Liteway 4.

Like most modern travel scooters the TGA Eclipse is very easy to dismantle, even with only one hand; the chassis uses wireless connections and large easy to grip handles to separate the parts.

Like all the scooters in the TGA range the Eclipse is beautifully designed and built; it is supplied with a comfortable padded seat and comes with a stylish removable seat bag. All the controls have been ergonomically designed to ensure comfort and ease of use.

Specifications

Full specifications aren’t yet available but what we do know looks pretty exciting. The design is to be similar to the recently launched Breeze Midi with a more compact chassis than the current full sized breeze. The new Breeze has a turning circle of only 56 inches compared to the current models 68 inches; this should make the scooter far more
manoeuvrable than it is at present.

The new TGA Breeze S will also feature re-designed suspension for an improved ride and larger batteries giving a range of 30 miles per charge with standard batteries.

Design

The design is the most exciting part of the Breeze S. The scooter is designed by Tamooz Creative Solutions and has already won the prestigious reddot design mark; the reddot mark is given annually to products that show design excellence and innovation in their field.

Micro Scooters

The smallest scooter in the Kymco ForU range is the Kymco Micro ForU. The Micro is an ultra portable mobility scooter that is designed to be easy to break down and transport.
